Maritime women and maritime youth hold organising seminar

Youth and women workers from the maritime industry throughout New Zealand attended the inaugural Maritime Women and Youth Seminar in Wellington on 8 July 2016.

Youth and women work­ers from the mar­itime indus­try through­out New Zealand attend­ed the inau­gur­al Mar­itime Women and Youth Sem­i­nar in Welling­ton on 8 July 2016.

Del­e­gates attend­ed from Auck­land, Tau­ran­ga, Napi­er, New Ply­mouth, Welling­ton, Lyt­tel­ton, Timaru, Port Chalmers Dunedin and Bluff. A del­e­ga­tion on mar­itime women and mar­itime youth also attend­ed from the Mar­itime Union of Aus­tralia.

Speak­ers includ­ed Deputy Nation­al Sec­re­tary of the MUA Will Tracey, Leader of the Labour Par­ty Andrew Lit­tle, Labour MP for Welling­ton Cen­tral Grant Robert­son and Green MP Gareth Hugh­es.

Del­e­gates attend­ing dis­cussed issues of rel­e­vance for them in the mar­itime indus­try includ­ing health and safe­ty and work­place harass­ment, and estab­lished the basis of a nation­al women and nation­al youth struc­ture.
