Maritime women and youth united

A one day con­fer­ence for youth and women mem­bers is tak­ing place on Monday 7 Novem­ber in Wel­ling­ton.

Uni­on mem­bers from branches through­out New Zea­l­and were joined by inter­na­tion­al reps from Aus­tralia, the USA, Canada, and the UK.

The day is fol­lowed by the four day Nation­al Con­fer­ence of the Mari­time Uni­on of New Zea­l­and start­ing on Tues­day 8 Novem­ber.

Speak­ers include Mari­time Uni­on of Aus­tralia nation­al womens officer Mich Elle Myers, RMT UK del­eg­ate Karlson Ling­wood, UNITE organ­isers Tom Buckley and Nadia Abu Shanab, MUA edu­ca­tion officer Mick Cross, former Green MP and polit­ic­al act­iv­ist Sue Brad­ford, ILWU Canada VP Steve Nasby and ITF officer Fin­lay McIn­tosh.

Dis­cus­sions have ranged from youth organ­ising, uni­on­ism as fem­in­ist work, work­ing class polit­ic­al cul­ture, and build­ing our rep­res­ent­a­tion among these sec­tors.
