Mayor concedes Port of Auckland privatisation will lead to increased costs

The Maritime Union has responded to claims by the Mayor of Auckland’s office the Union is engaged in “unfounded scaremongering” about the proposed sale of the Port of Auckland.
New report shows major downsides to Ports of Auckland privatisation scheme

A key concern coming out of the report is the potential for price hikes hitting port users – then being passed on to local industry and consumers. Privatisation of operations at Ports of Auckland is estimated to hit local port users with NZ$70 million in extra costs annually.

Since 2014 MUNZ and the MUA have had charity boxing events on both sides of the Tasman to raise money for charity. The MUA and MUNZ are taking a combined boxing team to Hawaii to take on ILWU Local 142 in a charity boxing event in the true spirit of international solidarity.
History will be made by the rank-and-file members from the MUA and MUNZ representing both our proud unions along with rank-and-file members from ILWU Local 142 together we will have the first Pacific charity fight night.
All proceeds will be donated to the Hawaiian charity “Kids Hurt Too” who support and care for disadvantaged children of Hawaii.
