1951 waterfront lockout commemorated in Lyttelton

A weekend of events was held in Lyttelton on 12-14 November 2021, marking the 70th anniversary of the 1951 Waterfront Lockout.

A week­end of events was held in Lyt­tel­ton on 12–14 Novem­ber 2021, mark­ing the 70th anniver­sary of the 1951 Water­front Lock­out.

A movie night was held on Fri­day with a screen­ing of the clas­sic New Zealand doc­u­men­tary 1951 and a bar­beque with enter­tain­ment from local group The East­ern held on Sun­day.

Due to COVID restric­tions, events were lim­it­ed to mem­bers of the three orga­ni­za­tions who put on the event – the Mar­itime Union, the Rail and Mar­itime Trans­port Union, and the Can­ter­bury Social­ist Soci­ety.
