1951 waterfront lockout commemorated in Lyttelton

A week­end of events was held in Lyt­telton on 12–14 Novem­ber 2021, mark­ing the 70th anniversary of the 1951 Water­front Lock­out.

A movie night was held on Fri­day with a screen­ing of the clas­sic New Zea­l­and doc­u­ment­ary 1951 and a barbe­que with enter­tain­ment from loc­al group The East­ern held on Sunday.

Due to COVID restric­tions, events were lim­ited to mem­bers of the three organ­iz­a­tions who put on the event – the Mari­time Uni­on, the Rail and Mari­time Trans­port Uni­on, and the Can­ter­bury Social­ist Soci­ety.
