Agreement reached with Lyttelton Port Company

Lyttelton Port Company and the Maritime Union of New Zealand have reached an agreement in principle, and all upcoming strike notices are withdrawn.

After a final round of meetings this week the deal will be put before members for ratification.

“Our members stood strong, they stood together and we now have a deal on the table,” says union National Secretary Joe Fleetwood.

“I would like to thank all the MUNZ branches for the unity and solidarity shown, and the many offers of support from our international family.”

Lyttelton Branch Secretary Gary Horan says he is grateful to MUNZ members around the country, and appreciates the role played by union leader Joe Fleetwood during negotiations.

“We really appreciate the support from our brothers,” says Mr Horan.

“Hopefully our result here can be a benchmark for workers in other ports.”
