Inter­port 2021 Report by Troy St John, Lyt­telton Branch

In Feb­ru­ary 2021, Golfers and Fish­er­man from ports around New Zea­l­and gathered in Lyt­telton to com­pete in the annu­al MUNZ Inter­port Sports Tour­na­ment.

Golf was held at the Wai­mairi Beach Golf Club and it didn’t dis­ap­point with some fant­ast­ic weath­er, one of the morn­ings it abso­lutely buck­eted down, flood­ing the greens and then stopped around 10am. The greens staff man­aged to get the course play­able and we were able to get going at 12pm and get a full round in.

As always it was amaz­ing to see some many famil­i­ar faces and really encour­aging to see some new ones as well.

I really need to thank all the staff at Wai­mairi and a spe­cial thanks to Mark and the kit­chen team as they went out of their way all week to ensure every­one was looked after.

The fish­ing was held in Kaikoura, they went out on Monday for a half day, Tues­day and Wed­nes­day for full days and anoth­er half day on Thursday. Reports are the fish­ing was amaz­ing with huge Blue Cod, Blue Nose and Groper com­ing over the side. Appar­ently there was plenty of bur­ley going over the side on the first day as the sea was a bit choppy.

Next year the tour­na­ment is being held in Whangarei and we invite all to come along to get involved in an amaz­ing event that has been run­ning for over 60 years, you won’t be dis­ap­poin­ted.
