Inter­port 2021 Report by Troy St John, Lyt­tel­ton Branch

In Feb­ru­ary 2021, Golfers and Fish­er­man from ports around New Zealand gath­ered in Lyt­tel­ton to com­pete in the annu­al MUNZ Inter­port Sports Tour­na­ment.

Golf was held at the Waimairi Beach Golf Club and it didn’t dis­ap­point with some fan­tas­tic weath­er, one of the morn­ings it absolute­ly buck­et­ed down, flood­ing the greens and then stopped around 10am. The greens staff man­aged to get the course playable and we were able to get going at 12pm and get a full round in.

As always it was amaz­ing to see some many famil­iar faces and real­ly encour­ag­ing to see some new ones as well.

I real­ly need to thank all the staff at Waimairi and a spe­cial thanks to Mark and the kitchen team as they went out of their way all week to ensure every­one was looked after.

The fish­ing was held in Kaik­oura, they went out on Mon­day for a half day, Tues­day and Wednes­day for full days and anoth­er half day on Thurs­day. Reports are the fish­ing was amaz­ing with huge Blue Cod, Blue Nose and Grop­er com­ing over the side. Appar­ent­ly there was plen­ty of bur­ley going over the side on the first day as the sea was a bit chop­py.

Next year the tour­na­ment is being held in Whangarei and we invite all to come along to get involved in an amaz­ing event that has been run­ning for over 60 years, you won’t be dis­ap­point­ed.
