Thursday 25 November 2021 was a historic day as long serving Wellington official John Whiting had his last Wellington Branch executive meeting.
John retires leaving behind a branch going forward and in good heart.
National officials joined the meeting through Zoom and congratulations were offered to John for a working life of union principles, hard work and leadership in many roles on the job and for the Union.
The Maritime Union of New Zealand was formed in 2002 when the New Zealand Waterfront Workers’ Union and the New Zealand Seafarers’ Union joined together. We represent waterfront workers, seafarers and related workers in New Zealand.
The Maritime Union of New Zealand has welcomed support from Labour, the Greens and the Alliance for its election policy proposals to rebuild coastal shipping and protect the pay and conditions of New Zealand port workers and seafarers.
